Power of Prayer: Prayer on Route to the Cross Part II

Matthew 26:36-46

This sermon focuses on another prayer Jesus prays on route to the cross. Last week we focused on a prayer that was spoken by Jesus in safe confounds of ‘the upper room’. In that prayer, Jesus recognizes the time has come for his arrest. This week, we listen to Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus is betrayed and handed over to the authorities. Jesus’ intimate prayer to the Father reveals so much about who Jesus is and the pain he endured leading up to the arrest. This prayer also reveals much about us and the struggles we have sticking with Jesus through the ups and downs of life.

Power of Prayer: Prayer on Route to the Cross

John 17:1-5

This Sunday we focus on perhaps the most intimate prayer recorded in the Bible called the High Priestly Prayer from John 17. We will only be focusing on verses 1-5, but they are enough to give us a treasure trove of prayer tips.

Power of Prayer: A Fishy Prayer

Jonah 2
This Morning we continue our series on the Power of Prayer by focusing on how not to pray. Jonah 2 records the prayer of Jonah in the belly of a whale. It reveals a broken prophet in more ways than one, but even despite himself (with his prejudices, self-righteousness, and selfishness), the Lord still takes the time to commission a fish to save him, to preserve him, and to spew him back on to dry ground. There’s much we can learn from his prayer, and I trust that the Lord will continue to use this series to help us grow in our prayer lives.

Power of Prayer: Lament's Unfiltered Prayers

Jeremiah 20:7-18

We continue our series called ‘Power of Prayer’ by focusing on the power of Lament. I believe this is the very first sermon I have ever preached on the topic of lament. I lament this fact. Lament comes from typically dark circumstances, but is produced out from a heart of faith. Life is filled with brokenness, injustice, loneliness, and heartache. Sometimes the issues are seasonal. Sometimes the issues are chronic. Whatever the case may be, the invitation we have from the Bible is to share with God unfiltered expressions of faith.

Power of Prayer: For Christ's Sake

I Kings 8:22-53

Power of Prayer: For Christ's Sake

This Sunday we continue to emphasize how we are shaped by prayer through our sermon series called ‘The Power of Prayer’. We often times don’t dive into a lengthy Old Testament passage, but this week we focus on part of a prayer by King Solomon. He gives a lengthy prayer in one of the most important events in the Old Testament: the dedication of the Temple.
